The series begins with the arrival of Penny, an aspiring actress, the neighboring apartment shared by Sheldon and Leonard, two physicists working at the California Institute of Technology . Leonard falls in love from the first moment of Penny.
Leonard and Sheldon are brilliant intellectuals at work, turn friends Howard and Raj, who are presented as a complete geeks, far removed from the concerns and problems of ordinary people. They typically feed Thai food. Howard is a Jewish engineer who lives with his mother and is Bernadette astrophysicist Raj is an Indian national.
